When you write, include your store's myshopify.com domain and, for a session question, the time (UTC) and the first characters of the session id shown in the session log. Never send passwords or API tokens by email.

Getting started

1. Install SessionSift from the Shopify App Store.
2. In the app, click Open theme editor (App embeds) and turn on Bot traffic scoring, then click Save. No theme code is changed.
3. Visit your store once. The session appears on the Sessions page within a minute.
4. Open Clean acquisition after a day of traffic to see which sources and campaigns send suspicious sessions.

Common questions

Shopify already filters bots. Why SessionSift? Since September 2026, Shopify Analytics leaves the bots it identifies out of session reports, and it is deliberately conservative. SessionSift adds three things:

• the reason for every flagged session;
• the bot share per paid campaign;
• the option to pause your ad pixels for bots, so Meta and Google learn less from automated traffic.

No sessions appear.

• Check that the app embed is on, in the theme editor › App embeds, for your published theme.
• Ad blockers and browsers with JavaScript turned off do not send data.

A real customer was marked as suspicious.

• Open the session in the session log and read the reason codes.
• Lower the points of that signal, or raise the thresholds, on the Rules page.
• Any add to cart, checkout or order already removes points.

Does the event gate stop all pixels? No. It stops Shopify-managed pixels that need marketing (or analytics) consent, Google tags through consent mode, Meta Pixel code in your theme, and tags in Google Tag Manager that you set to wait for the sessionsift_verdict event. It cannot stop Shopify's own analytics or pixels that ignore consent, and events that fired before the verdict stay sent.

Is Cloudflare required? No. The Cloudflare page is optional and only for stores whose domain already runs through Cloudflare. Shopify does not support a Cloudflare proxy in front of a store.

How do I cancel? Choose Switch to Free on the Plan page, or uninstall the app. Shopify stops the subscription.
